This workshop is an inspiring introduction to natural dye where you get to create beautiful patterns on textiles. The focus will lie on bundle dye, a technique that enables direct transfer of colour pigments from flowers and other natural materials onto fabric.
Without the use of harmful chemicals!
The colourful results can be varied endlessly and looks like a kind of updated tie dye, with floral and marble-like patterns. We’ll take inspiration from the patterns that exist around us: the marbling of stones, the foliage of trees, lichen, bark and flowers. This technique is perfect for giving new life to stained or washed out clothing. Before the workshop, you will receive a small compendium with recipes and relevant information in order to be able to continue working on your own.
Schedule:
-Refreshments and introduction.
-Brief history and contemporary orientation on the subject.
-Basic info about natural colours and different techniques.
-We analyse and look at examples together to understand how they were created.
-Demonstration of bundle dye.
-We dye together! Each participant can choose their own colour and pattern and is guided through the process.
Please note
Please note
Bring an apron or similar to protect your clothes and 1-3 smaller garments or textiles that you want to dye. You’ll also have the possibility to buy extra white silk accessories to dye, scrunchie or scarf.
For larger groups the workshop structure is flexible and can be varied to suit the participants needs. The workshop can also be held in other places, but please contact course leader ahead of booking to discuss that possibility. For more than 8 participants, white accessories need to be pre-ordered.

Since 2021
I am a fashion designer and artist and I run the brand ALICE FINE, focused on natural dyeing. My interest in natural dye began after a number of years in the fashion industry where I decided to explore sustainable ways to dye textiles. I wanted to work more artisanal, in a small scale. And I wanted to show that it is possible to create strong, vibrant colours and patterns, without chemicals. Working in symbiosis with organic materials and textiles has become a way for me to question production processes, the consumer society and the value of a garment. The results are unique plant-coloured garments and objects full of inherent power from nature. I teach natural dye because I want to share this magical world full of colour we have around us. It is also a great way to give new life to an old garment that has lost its colour or become stained. Welcome to dye with me! // Karin Bjurström
